NEC Security Provides Cybersecurity Capacity Building Exercises for Pacific Island Countries and Region in Guam
News- Following the training held in Fiji in October 2024, incident response training and hands-on exercises for cybersecurity practitioners belonging to government and critical infrastructure companies from 11 countries and 1 region were held in Guam this time -February 17, 2025 - NEC Security, Ltd., an NEC Group company, participated in cybersecurity capacity building exercises for Pacific island countries and region, which was hosted by Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC). Exercises were conducted in Guam from February 7 to 14, 2025, with 26 cybersecurity practitioners from government agencies and critical infrastructure operators from 11 countries and 1 region participating.

To mitigate cybersecurity risks globally, fostering cybersecurity capabilities in developing countries, particularly in regions such as the Indo-Pacific with its strategic geographical importance, is of paramount importance.

Since the opening of the ASEAN-Japan Cybersecurity Capacity Building Centre (AJCCBC) (*1) in 2018, NEC has supported the project’s operations through initiatives that include the coordination of approximately 30 cyber exercises for ASEAN member countries.
Leveraging its expertise, NEC Security, as a cybersecurity specialist, deploys its instructors and tutors to deliver training programs specifically tailored to the present state and requirements of cybersecurity in Pacific island countries and regions.
Specifically, after completing over one month of online pre-study, participants engaged in a five-day incident response training program designed by NEC Security to address cyberattacks. This hands-on experience significantly contributes to the development of practical cybersecurity capabilities.
